Two Suns

A short prompt piece from Writing Club. Uploading as an example for Short Prompt commissions.

I stood there, watching the sky as the sun set. They’re going to make it, I told myself, knowing that I was lying. Their voices, panicked by impending doom, were weak and static over my com link. I turned as the teleporter behind me started humming to life. They’re going to make it!, I told myself; this time with more sincerity.

Then the transmissions cut and a second sun appeared in the sky. A computerised voice from the gate behind me confirmed my fears. “Connection with ship lost.” I fell to my knees. They are gone.
